Tuesday, October 14, 2014: Disability employment training for employers:

Gov. Eloy S. Inos proclaimed October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month on Oct. 3, 2014. As part of the NDEAM awareness activities, the planning committee has lined up a series of workshops/trainings this month to benefit employers by way of increasing their awareness and understanding of disability employment issues.

Training topics
NDEAM’s key trainer/presenter, Philip L. Marlowe of the Guam-based Office of Federal Contracts Compliance Program of the U.S. Department of Labor, will cover the following topics (Day 1 – all day):

  • Affirmative Action and Non-Discrimination Obligations of Contractors and Subcontractors Regarding Individuals with Disabilities
  • Developmental Requirements for a Basic Affirmative Action Program/Plan: Service and Supply
  • 16 Point Affirmative Action Requirements: Federal Construction Contractors/Changes to Section 503 and Vietnam Era Veterans’ Readjustment Assistance Act
  • DIR 506 – Criminal Records Use

Other training topics will include (Day 2 – morning only):

  • Overview of the Public Vocational Rehabilitation Program by Jane M. Tudela/OVR
  • Title I (Employment)/Reasonable Accommodations of the Americans with Disabilities Act by Thomas J. Camacho/CDD
  • Assistive Technology + Employment = Accessible Workplace by Raymond D. Diaz/CDD-ATP
  • Sensitivity Training by Thomas Thornburgh/NMPASI
  • Workforce L.I.F.E. by Floyd Masga/NMC-UCEDD

Training Schedules
The 1one-and-a-half day training conference is scheduled as follows:

  • Oct. 15 and 16: Tinian NMC Campus, Room D
  • Oct. 21 and 22: Rota Mayor’s Office
  • Oct. 23 and 24: Kanoa Resort, Saipan

Marlowe’s curriculum vitae
Marlowe represents the U.S. Department of Labor and for the last two years as compliance officer for the Office of Federal Contracts Compliance Programs for Guam and the CNMI. He has a master’s degree in Business Management and is a graduate of the U.S. Department of Defense Equal Opportunity Institute and a former Equal Opportunity Officer for the U.S. Army. Additionally, Marlowe serves as adjunct faculty with the University of Phoenix School of Business Administration and previously with the University of Maryland, University College and Central Texas College Department of Criminal Justice.
