June 05, 2014: Much for many. THOMAS M. THORNBURGH
THE recent passing of our Mayor Donald P. Flores is truly a loss for all of us. I remember him to be a man of the people, who did much for many.
I recall the last time I met him was on Saturday, May 10th, around 3 p.m. at the Last Command Post for the Autism Society of the CNMI’s Hot Dog Walk and Family Fun Day.
He came to support the people and the movement, and as always, had his big smile on and was eager to shake everyone’s hand. He is the perfect example of what a “Great Man” should be. He treated people with dignity and respect, and worked tirelessly to make Saipan, the most beautiful island, in the world.
Today, we can see the results of what he has done as Mayor of Saipan.
Just take a drive on Beach Road and notice that you can see the ocean through the trees that his people have maintained, along with the flags of the many nationalities you can find on Saipan, and the colorful and beautiful Chichirica along the way. Or, take a walk through the villages on Saipan and notice that you don’t have to worry about stray dogs chasing you anymore. These are just some examples of the various projects he was doing as our mayor. He has worked hard for us all, and he did it until he could do it no more.
“It is wonderful how much may be done, if we are always doing.” ― Thomas Jefferson, Letters of Thomas Jefferson
